En sus diarios, Lomax anota:

It began to get bitter cold in the court-yard back of the church, but old Quilino took up his flute and touched off a string of notes, the way the leaves glint in the sun, and rolled out a belly rhythm on the big drum meanwhile. He listened to his recording and said "I have only just started Senor. We must put them all down, I can play here until tomorrow, we must have them in order". He called the young people to play the castanets and to sing, and closed his eyes and saw again the faces of the past generation, the heavy black skirts of the women sweeping the rust coloured earth.
